May the 4th be with you! April showers bring May flowers, and Mayflowers bring pilgrims. May also brings Mother’s Day. If you’re lucky enough to still have your mother in your life, make sure to do something nice for her this Mother’s Day. Hey, if she likes movies, why not get her a print from my store? If she’s got a dog or a cat (or a kid), I’d love to draw a caricature. (Details can be found by clicking here.) April was another strong month thanks to my Spring sales and my freelance work. I hope I’m over the starving artist phase and will continue to have these strong sales months. Time will tell, I guess. As I’ve mentioned before several times, my sales are what keeps this project alive. If you like what you see, I really appreciate your support whether it’s with a purchase or with a social media share. (or both, preferably!) April was busy, and May is going to be the same, so I’ll jump right in to what happened in April:
New $8 prints!
I’m now offering art prints for collectors on a budget. I don’t want my art to ever be out of the reach of anyone who wants to buy it, so I’m dedicated to keeping inexpensive options available. After all, I’m a populist at heart. Let’s face it, I’m making cheesy pop art, not painting the Sistine Chapel ceiling. My 11″ x 8.5″ prints are now available directly from my online store. These don’t come from a third party, they come directly from me so I’m able to personally inspect and ensure the quality before I ship them. (Not that my third party printers are poor quality, they’re not. I just don’t get to personally inspect them before they ship.) Right now, I’m selling the small prints for $8 plus $3 shipping in the US. The shipping is only applied to the first print, so if you buy several, you’re still only paying $3 in shipping. Below are my two most popular prints. (It doesn’t match my site ranking because I sold a few off line.)
New Artwork for Sale
My freelance illustration work is keeping me very busy, so I was only able to do one movie caricature this month. I enjoy doing it, so I’m setting up a Patreon page to help with the cost. (I’ll post an update when my rewards and my video are ready.) Next month I am moving to a new apartment, so I’m not sure how much time I’ll have for personal work. Time will tell. The first caricature was a request from a co-worker. It’s from Stephen King’s It. Tim Curry steals the show as Pennywise the Dancing Clown. I’m not a huge fan of this movie (actually a mini-series). I think the first half is decent, but the second half is unnecessary and drags on. The clown remains very creepy. The second new work I posted this month was for a client. I’ve started offering celebrity caricatures on my Fiverr page, and this was the first order. Conan is my favorite late night host, so I was very excited to draw him. I’ve drawn him before, so this was also a good chance to see my improvement. Click the images below to buy the new work on phone cases, women’s leggings, money pouches, wall tapestries, duvet covers, tee shirts, mugs, pillows, etc. I’ve got lots of options, so please shop around!
Top sellers for April 2015
My top sellers for April 2015 are two of my movie caricatures. My Tombstone caricature (pictured below) became my fastest piece to be sold between the time I posted it and the time I made the first sale. People seem to really like it! I sold it on tee shirts and metal canvas, mostly. Doc Holliday was my top seller for the month. In second place, and not that far behind, is my caricature of John Goodman from The Big Lebowski. People wanted this one as a print and on tee shirts. It’s also available as a 20 x 13 large art print at The Little Lebowski Shop in New York City. If you’re in NY, NJ, PA, or CT, stop in and tell Roy that I sent you. He’s almost out of stock so act fast! I’m going to be drawing caricatures of The Dude and The Jesus for him to sell in his shop as well, so stay tuned to this site and www.binarygod.com for updates. Click the images below to see your purchase options. My art is available as a print, a tapestry, or printed on tee shirts, mugs, pillows, rugs, iPhone cases, and much, much more. Every social media like and share is appreciated, too!
Top blog post for April 2015
My top blog post for April 2015 was my short post about the violence that has erupted in Baltimore. I wasn’t even going to mention it, but one of my followers asked me to write one. I’ll admit, I haven’t really been following the story too closely, so the post is more of a general outlook than anything specific.
Second place for April was my review of the Faith No More concert that I attended. I’ll be attending a lot of concerts this summer so make sure you stop back for my reviews! I’ve already got Faith No More, Clutch, and Mastodon under my belt. Here’s what’s on deck.
